What's in your soil?
The cone penetration test (CPTu) is a method used to determine the geotechnical engineering properties of soils and delineating soil stratigraphy.
Soils Limited carries out CPTu tests when:
– Ground investigations is needed to know the strata before planning for construction of buildings, roads,
bridges, railways etc
– To determine ground water level and if you have good pore pressure accuracy also
One of the most obvious reasons for choosing CPTu is that it is significantly more time and cost effective than the more traditional soil sampling. You are able to investigate in greater deal and greater accuracy, something which a soil sampler lacks
Please note that CTPu Probing cannot be used where there are pebbles, boulders and rocks. For these harder layers we recommend drill data recording or core sampling as alternatives.
If you combine CPTu investigations with some soil samples you will have a very good perception of the ground conditions in the area you have investigated.
