Soils Limited are saddened by the recent passing of one of our directors, Rob Ainsworth at the age of 41.
Rob died, after a short battle with lymphoma, survived by his wife Amy, sons Finn and Jacob and daughter Emily, peacefully on 5th August 2020. Though Rob would have preferred the American epitaph that said ‘The cancer finally lost, but so did [Rob]. Let’s call it draw’.
Rob joined Soils Limited in 2003, with his first job being laying the carpet at the new office near Hedge End before being trusted to go out on the road and do the infamous gas readings. Despite his experience being limited to snowboard instructing, labouring and now carpet laying, Rob hit the ground running and thanks to his passion, drive and commitment, the Winchester office opened after rapidly increased turnover and profit for the consultancy. Not to mention it was just around the corner from Rob’s house, though he still drove to work.
Voted onto the board in 2012, Rob got to work, wanting Soils Limited to not only be a best in class, engineer-driven company in the South of England but to one that was innovative, spanning the country (and Europe!) and forward-thinking. His energy and vision made Soils Limited what it is today.
However, despite this legacy, what Rob will be remembered for most is him as a person. The memories will not just be new client wins but also the fun. The trips to Le Mans when struggling to light a BBQ, he reached for a can of deodorant and a tyre inflator. This is from a man, with multiple letters after his name. The after work beers at Red Cat. The Christmas Parties. The laughs around the office.
Rob may be gone but will never be forgotten, and the emails and messages that we have already received from partners, clients and members of the industry, show that he was loved and respected not just within Soils.
The family have asked for privacy during this time, and the funeral will be a private affair. Family flowers only, rather donate to the Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity:
