Geotechnical Technician

Celebrating our 42nd birthday this year, Soils Limited are a team of qualified geotechnical engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, and geochemists working across the south of England, with offices in Hampshire, Cornwall and Surrey. We provide geotechnical and contaminated land consultancy, as well as in-house site investigation services, monitoring, and inspections.

We work for a wide range of clients; from self-builders seeking value and support, to national bodies requiring complex multi-discipline investigations working across teams and managing an array of stakeholders, we pride ourselves on our ability and depth of experience.

Hours: Full time, Monday – Friday. Site hours are typically 8:30am to 4pm, however these are flexible based on workload and seasonal changes.

Location: This is a site based role. Soils Limited routinely work across the south and south west, with occasional works further afield. This role will be site-based and require daily travel to our work sites. Our yard is just outside Effingham and candidates will ideally be located within 30 minutes of the yard, however we would be glad to discuss with interested candidates.

The Role: As a technician at Soils Limited, you can expect a diverse range of tasks from Day 1, some examples could include:

  • Supervising and/or undertaking machine excavated and hand-dug trial pitting to recover soil samples;

  • In-situ soil testing;

  • Gas and groundwater monitoring;

  • Soil and rock logging;

  • Liaising with clients, engineering supervisors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders;

  • Coordinating ground investigation works with our field technicians and drillers;

  • Supervising intrusive investigation activities such as drilling, trial pitting and in-situ testing;

  • Support for onsite works.

While prior experience in a similar industry would be preferred, it is not essential. We will provide full training, guidance and support in your development. Our only ask is that you are eager to learn.

  • Willingness to be adaptable and enjoy a challenge;

  • Have the right to work in the UK;

  • Eager and able to manage their workload and balance and prioritise a range of tasks and priorities;

  • A strong work ethic and desire to learn;

  • Capable of presenting ideas and working collaboratively within a team;

  • Have a UK Driving licence;

  • Strong communication skills, able to discuss technical ideas and solutions.

The following attributes are desirable, feel free to highlight any of these in your cover letter:

  • Relevant industry experience through placements or internships;

  • CSCS Card.

Location: Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required) Annual Salary: From £25,000 to £28,000 dependent on experience.
