Graduate / Junior Engineer

Soils Limited is seeking environmental, geotechnical and engineering geology graduates to join our company in 2024.

Celebrating our 42nd birthday this year, Soils Limited is a team of qualified geotechnical engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, and geochemists working across the south of England, with offices in Hampshire, Cornwall and Surrey. We provide geotechnical and contaminated land consultancy, as well as in-house site investigation services, monitoring, and inspections. We also have our own team of surveyors that provide utility tracing, GPR and topographical surveys.

Hours: 40 working hours per week, Monday – Friday.

Location: The role will be based in one of our offices, with a mix of office based and site work across the region. The team routinely undertake fieldwork across the south of England, with occasional needs further afield

The Role: As a graduate at Soils Limited, you can expect a diverse range of tasks from Day 1, some examples could include:

  • Soil and rock logging and laboratory scheduling;

  • Liaising with clients, engineering supervisors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders;

  • Coordinating ground investigation works with our field technicians and drillers;

  • Supervising intrusive investigation activities such as drilling, trial pitting and in-situ testing;

  • Support for onsite works;

  • Processing field and laboratory results;

  • Writing reports and communicating our work to our clients;

  • Working with our accounts department to prepare invoices.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Have obtained, or be working towards a Degree level qualification in Environmental or Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related field;

  • Willingness to be adaptable and enjoy a challenge;

  • Have the right to work in the UK;

  • Eager and able to manage their workload and balance and prioritise a range of tasks and priorities;

  • Some experience or knowledge of geotechnical engineering ideal;

  • A strong work ethic and desire to learn;

  • Capable of presenting ideas and working collaboratively within a team;

  • Have a UK Driving licence;

  • Ability to communicate technical ideas and solutions.

The following attributes are desirable, feel free to highlight any of these in your cover letter:

  • A Masters Degree in a relevant discipline;

  • Relevant industry experience through placements or internships;

  • Experience in design to relevant British Standards and Eurocode;

  • Experience of developing ground models and assessing existing risks and solutions related to ground activities;

  • Understanding and/or experience of design for foundations (shallow and piled) and retaining walls;

  • Familiarity with the concepts of Contaminated Land;

  • CSCS Card.

Annual Salary: From £25,000 to £28,000 dependent on experience.
