Logging Engineer

LOCATION: WINCHESTER
SALARY: £26,000 to £32,000 dependent on experience

We are hiring a Logging Engineer to join our team in Winchester. This is a mixed role, primarily undertaking logging and sampling of soil and rock cores in our Winchester office, with occasional needs to undertake gas/groundwater monitoring on site. 

The role would be Band 1 – Graduate or Band 2 – Assistant, so we would welcome applications from both recent graduates and those with some experience.

Hours: 40 working hours per week, Monday – Friday. 

Location: The role will be based primarily in our Winchester offices, with a mix of office based and site work across the region. The team routinely undertake fieldwork across the south of England, with occasional needs further afield.

The Role: The principal duties of a Logging Engineer at Soils Limited are:

  • Logging core and other samples recovered from boreholes

  • Updating the logging database

  • Preparing samples for transfer to sub-contract testing houses (geotechnical and environmental)

  • Arranging disposal of samples in line with the contract specification

  • Assisting engineers in the field with in-situ testing.

While the role has core duties, we do anticipate these to grow with time depending on the interests of the individual and the needs of the business.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Have obtained, or be working towards a Degree level qualification in Environmental or Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related field;

  • Willingness to be adaptable and enjoy a challenge;

  • Have the right to work in the UK;

  • Eager and able to manage their workload and balance and prioritise a range of tasks and priorities;

  • Some experience or knowledge of geotechnical engineering ideal;

  • A strong work ethic and desire to learn;

  • Capable of presenting ideas and working collaboratively within a team;

  • Have a UK Driving licence;

  • Ability to communicate technical ideas and solutions.
